I have this annoying problem. Slack-desktop app AUR dies whenever someone sends me a message. And I'm not sure how to fix this. This probably has little (or nothing) to do with Arch. I have send them a message about this, not sure if they'd fix it soon. Posting the issue here as well, hope someone would suggest a workaround. Update from Arch User Repository. The latest update has made the PKGBUILD significantly more difficult to review.
Why were all references to 'slack' updated to '${_product}'? It's longer to write and more difficult to read.
- I'm trying to solve the VRP problem with Time-Windows, and would like to set the cost function to minimize the sum of all slack variables (total wait time for all vehicles).
- Create arch package using PKGBUILD from an other distro (slack) Hi all! I'm trying to build a slackware package for proprietary drivers of Brother HL-2030 printer.
- Over the past 3-4 weeks, I've noticed my mouse scroll wheel stops working in a few applications at different times. When it is not working in one application, it continues working properly in all others. I notice it most often in Slack and Chromium. With Slack, I have to restart the program to get the mouse wheel to respond again.
Can you please update the slack.sh bin script to use '#!/bin/bash' instead of '#!/bin/sh'? Pacman has a hard dependency on bash, so everyone will always have it installed. There's no reason to use '#!/bin/sh' on an Arch Linux system.

@Koffiepoeder It's working for me. I'm using Sway and simply executed
slack --enable-features=UseOzonePlatform --ozone-platform=wayland

Still cannot login with the latest PKGBUILD, which looks to have the changes integrated. This is under X11 in Gnome.

For those wondering, using this version to get slack to run under wayland did NOT work for me (i.e. changing
/user/bin/slack
with the chromium flags --enable-features=UseOzonePlatform --ozone-platform=wayland
). Kind of expected, but at least worth a try.pychuang commented on 2021-03-19 18:52
@mvdan A request for making it an orphan package is already pending. Once the request goes through, other users can take over the package and push new changes.

What can be done to get this package updated and/or integrate @qubidt's changes?
qubidt commented on 2021-02-10 15:52
Updated the PKGBUILD to fix the issues others mentioned. Also updated slack versions and moved the installation directory to
/usr/lib
to make it more consistent with other electron packages. Not sure which change specifically fixed the issue but I can 'sign in' successfully now.slack-electron

I had the same problem. Then I quit my job and removed slask. Problem solved.

This one won't login for me, after I click 'Sign In' it brings me to the website which then tells me to login, which I do, then it tells me it wants to open Slack, and when it does it just opens a new instance telling me to sign in.
I removed this version and installed slack-desktop and it worked perfectly the first time.

Slack Urban
Using '#!/usr/bin/env sh' in the shebang is pointless, because bash is a hard dependency of pacman. Everyone will always have it installed, so you may as well just refer directly to /bin/bash.
One of the frequent criticisms of Slackware is the lack of official packages available. While the official package set provides a good, stable, and flexible operating system (and is quite adequate for many individuals), the fact remains that many users want/need quite a few additional applications in order for it to meet their needs. There are a few well-known third party package repositories, but many users justifiably do not want to install untrusted packages on their systems. For those users, the traditional solution has been to download the source code for desired applications and compile them manually. This works, but introduces another set of problems associated with managing those applications; version updates and such require more of the admin's time than precompiled packages, and lack of notes will often mean that the admin forgot which configure flags were used earlier (as well as any other special issues encountered).
In our opinion, the best solution to this problem is for the admin to automate the compile process using a SlackBuild script. Patrick Volkerding, the maintainer of Slackware, uses SlackBuild scripts to compile the official packages, so it makes sense for us to use the same idea for extra applications we want to add.

Our goal is to have the largest collection of SlackBuild scripts available while still ensuring that they are of the highest quality - we test every submission prior to inclusion in the repository. Visual basic code for beginners. We do not now nor will we ever provide precompiled packages for any of the applications for which we have SlackBuild scripts - instead, we want the system administrator (that's you) to be responsible for building the packages.
